A Hollywood Hills-style trophy home on the Gold Coast hinterland that sold after just six days for $9 million was bought by Swans megastar Lance “Buddy” Franklin and his wife, beauty queen-turned-model Jesinta Franklin.
The purchase is set to lend credence to reports by Nine’s Wide World Of Sports in August that the Brisbane Lions are the frontrunners to sign the biggest name in AFL when he ends his 10-year contract with the Swans next year.
The seven-bedroom residence comes with a swimming pool with swim-up bar and a podium.
Franklin, an Indigenous sportsman, and Jesinta, an ambassador for Seafolly, were pinned as the mystery buyers of the luxury Villa Casa property this week, just days after they listed their Rose Bay home with a $5 million to $5.5 million guide.
Jesinta, who in 2010 was crowned Miss Universe Australia, has made no secret of her desire to return to live in her Gold Coast hometown with their kids Rocky and Tullulah, even if it means Buddy commutes to Sydney for games next year.
The couple’s new residence in Reedy Creek easily ranks among the best of its kind on the Gold Coast, having been designed by Reece Keil Design and earlier this year won the Gold Coast Master Builders Award for House of the Year.

It is a fitting purchase for the social media influencer Jesinta, whose Instagram account commands 373,000 followers, given her new home amassed a following of some 13,000 followers during the construction project.
The owner-builders Ben Rochford and Dominee Gessnar, of Tidal Constructions, bought the 4500-square-metre block in 2018 for $1 million, commissioning the designer residence soon after and overseeing the project while living at their home across the road.
The seven-bedroom property is cantilevered out from the hillside with distinctive arches and uninterrupted views to the Gold Coast, a parent’s retreat with a vaulted passageway to the en suite and dressing room, a games room with a bar, swimming pool with a swim-up bar and podium, separate two-bedroom residence, and high-end finishes like the brass balustrades, lime-rendered walls, white dolomite marble kitchen, travertine tiles and almost 4-metre high ceilings.
“The Gold Coast has never seen anything like it,” said selling agent Justin Haynes, of Amir Prestige Group. “To get a higher sale result you need to look to the beachfront.”

Haynes was gagged by confidentiality orders from commenting on the buyers, saying only that they are relocating from Sydney and originally come from the Gold Coast. A spokesman for the Franklins also declined to comment.
Buddy’s future has been the subject of intense speculation since he extended his nine-year, $10 million contract with the Swans in September, just five days before the Grand Final.

The Franklin purchase is more than three times the previous Reedy Creek high of $2.94 million set in June, but comes amid a slew of trophy sales this year on the Gold Coast beachfront, most recently at $19 million at Mermaid Beach for a three-level house bought by F45 co-founder Rob Deutsch.
