Few Aussies would have heard of Barraba, New South Wales.
But this small town, about 100km from Tamworth and Gunnedah, has clocked a special, $100 million-plus real estate deal.
The almost 30,000-acre, three-property portfolio, which includes a unique, Spanish-style homestead, has been signed for.
The properties themselves have fetched in excess $100 million. Adding the plants and livestock, the total price is an undisclosed sum north of that magic figure.
It is the highest price paid in the district, at more than $3500 an acre, agent Charlie Hart said. Nothing else has previously sold for more than $3000 an acre.
The agribusiness properties named Plumthorpe, Campo Santo and Mayvale were all sold by Hart, of Hart Rural Agencies.

Plumthorpe was built in 1936 on land settled in 1888 and nourished by the Manilla River. The surrounding acres are described in the listing as "excellent breeding, backgrounding and fattening country" for cattle, sheep and crops.
The grand, 10-bedroom farmhouse has a soaring porch and a central courtyard, but Hart said buyers appreciated that it was still warm and welcoming.
The other land holdings of Mayvale and Campo Santo adjoin Plumthorpe. The properties have been variously owned over the years by some of NSW's most prominent farming families.

Hart said it was uncertain how a house with Spanish influence came to be in Barraba, so far from the architectural inspiration of the major cities (Sydney and Brisbane are about 500km away). He remains curious as to its provenance.
He said the properties had a "massive reputation" in the district for their high-quality production, over a long history.
The Plumthorpe homestead was a highlight of the inspections. "Everyone that went there was surprised at how comfortable, friendly and charming the house felt," Hart said. "You walk into the courtyard and you'd see their faces and they'd say, 'wow, this is a really lovely spot'. I really enjoyed the process."
The conjunctional agency was Sydney-based Meares & Associates.
