Property gossips in the Lower North Shore suburb of Northwood have been diverted from the hot topic of who is the mystery arsonist who burnt the Rossi family’s estate to the ground to the more salubrious subject of Wallaby legend and pub tycoon Bill Young’s decision to sell his nearby mansion.
The stylists have been, the garden manicured and even the curbside trees trimmed ahead of the up-coming auction campaign of “Yandama” given Young’s plan to move to the Gold Coast.
The Federation-style mansion Yandama last traded for $11.2 million.
The Federation-style mansion set a suburb high in 2018 when Bill and Anna Young purchased it for $11.2 million from finance industry veteran Hugh Dougherty, topping the then high of $10.37 million set by the waterfront residence of Business Council of Australia president Tim Reed.
But local records doubled last year thanks to the Rossi family’s decision to sell their home of 60 years for $24.1 million to lender “Owen” Ouyang Chen, who just a few months after he took the keys was forced to watch on as his newly acquired heritage home was reduced to ash and rubble.
Ray White’s Chris Wilkins is yet to set a guide on the Young home, but local sources are expecting it to go for more than $14 million at the December 10 auction.

For your money is a six-bedroom house built in 1996 by Brian Huxley, of Huxley Homes, complete with a billiard room, swimming pool, sauna, summer house with bathroom and kitchen, and tennis court on an almost 2200-square-metre block.
Young’s move north comes at a busy time in the family’s pub interests.
Young Hotels recently added the Bar Broadway Hotel in Chippendale to their portfolio, which includes the Illinois Hotel in Five Dock, Five Dock Hotel, Royal Hotel Top Ryde, Concord Hotel in Concord West and Mortlake Hotel.
Fashion designer Bridget Yorston, half of the Bec + Bridge label, is set to become one of Sydney’s best housed fashion designers thanks to her recent purchase of the Mosman home of NSW Treasury Group chief David Deverall and his wife Fiona Nyman.
The Federation home sold by David Deverall and Fiona Nyman had been redesigned by architect Howard Tanner.
The more than $14 million purchase elevates Yorston to Sydney’s ultra-prestige market, and will no doubt save her following through on the recently lodged DA of her current Federation home in Mosman she bought in 2016 for $3.82 million.
Yorston’s new digs on prized St Elmo Street in Clifton Gardens will certainly require no work thanks to a major redesign by architect Howard Tanner.

The exact sale price will have to await settlement given no comment from buyer’s agent Deb West, and Ray White Mosman’s Geoff Smith and Richard Harding, but the well-oiled local rumour mills suggest the result neared their $14.5 million asking price.
Yorston founded the fashion label about 20 years ago with Becky Cooper, who bought her North Bondi home in 2019 for $4.27 million.
Minqin Wang is not a familiar name in Sydney but in the annals of the Significant Investment Visa she goes down as the first such “golden ticket” holder to parlay her residency status into a purchase on Sydney’s high-end housing market almost a decade ago.
In 2013, Wang was described as the wife of a mining transportation company boss in China’s Shanxi province when she bought an architect Kieran McInerney-designed residence in Vaucluse for $8.5 million.
The five-bedroom house with five living areas, a pool and landscaping by Maria and Nicholas Hosking had been on the market for a year at the time with an asking price of $8 million.
The Vaucluse house of Minqin Wang was designed by architect Kieran McInerney.
Wang’s bullish purchase was a welcome, and familiar story across the luxury market in the years that followed, and well into 2017 when she added an apartment in the Eliza building opposite Hyde Park for $2.68 million.
But in the wake of COVID Wang hasn’t been in Sydney enough to warrant the local digs, according to her agent Monika Tu, of BlackDiamondz, who is set to launch the house to the market in the coming week with a more contemporary guide of $19.8 million.
Don’t expect it to sell to another SIV holder given the review of the immigration system currently underway by Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil is expected to kill off the golden ticket visas.
The Randwick record looks like it has been reset at more than $9 million judging by the disappointed under bidders who until Friday were vying for the home of Plasson Australia chief Joshua Kirton and his wife Amanda.

The Agency’s Ben Collier wouldn’t reveal the result, but had raised his guide from the $8 million range to $9 million before it promptly sold.
The Federation house, Wirringulla, with a swimming pool in the front and parking tied to the strata block behind it was renovated since the Kirtons purchased it in 2009 for $3.15 million.
The previous high was set at $8.97 million last December for The Islington Victorian manor bought by Elizabeth Miller, wife of lawyer Brendan Miller.
